A /b/tard is a user of 4chan’s /b/ board — the most infamous corner of the internet.
/b/ stands for “Random,” and random it is. The board has no rules, no archives, no usernames, and no accountability. Posts disappear after a few hours. Threads vanish into the void. In this chaos, /b/tards have built a culture of shock humor, irony, and deliberate offensiveness. Nothing is sacred. Everything is a target.
The /b/tard ethos is anti-establishment to the point of absurdity. They raid websites, manipulate online polls, and spread memes with evangelical fervor. Some of the internet’s biggest viral moments — Rickrolling, LOLcats, the Anonymous hacker collective — trace back to /b/. So do some of its darkest corners: harassment campaigns, illegal content, and coordinated trolling that destroyed real lives.
The identity is deliberately shapeless. /b/tards call themselves “the cancer that is killing /b/” and mean it as a compliment. They worship a cartoon figure called Pedobear, use slang that mutates weekly, and treat sincerity as a disease. To be a /b/tard is to opt out of normal internet citizenship entirely.
Not everyone on /b/ is a monster. Some are bored teenagers. Some are brilliant pranksters. Some are genuinely lost. But the board rewards the extremes, and the extremes have defined its reputation. The /b/tard is less a person than a mask — one that makes it easy to forget there is a human behind it.
