In the game, non-player characters (NPCs) — specifically town guards — frequently repeat the line: “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.” The line is meant to explain why the guard is no longer an adventurer, but its constant repetition across the game’s many guard NPCs made it an immediate target for mockery.
